YOUR SPONSORING IDEA Endowed professorship
By setting up an endowed professorships, you can make a decisive contribution toward supporting innovative fields of research that are close to your heart. At the same time, such professorships help promote continuous progress in research and teaching making them an investment in the training of young talents.
An endowed professorship can be financed by a company, foundation or individual. However, the principle of academic freedom of research and teaching has to be resepcted at all times. This is why a careful examination is carried out by the University before the establishment of each professorship. Afterwards, an agreement is signed by Heidelberg University and the specific sponsor outlining the terms and conditions of the endowed professorship.

Professorship for public law, international law and human rights
Heidelberg alumnus and Honorary Senator Dr Klaus-Georg Hengstberger enabled the faculty of law to establish a professorship. It should be permanently maintained. Law Professor Dr Anja Seibert-Fohr has been appointed to the first Hengstberger Foundation Professorship in the 2016 | 2017 winter semester. The expert in public law, international law and human rights is the former Vice Chair of the United Nations Human Rights Committee. In 2020, the renowned expert in public international law and human rights will join the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg for several years as a judge. The court‘s task is to uphold the obligations resulting from the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
The professorship is giving me the best conditions to intensify my research in the rule of law and will make a lasting contribution to the safeguarding of the rule of law, in times of globalisation. I am delighted that the Hengstberger Foundation acknowledged the significance and relevance of research in the rule of law and is providing specific support.
