Subject Area – International Health HAI visits HIGH

HAI and HIGH not only share an identical phonetic pronunciation, but also numerous activities in the field of alumni work. Last year, HAI employee Miriam Schimmelmann was a guest at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health (HIGH) to present the work of the central Heidelberg Alumni Association to the institute's young researchers. The occasion was the opening of the current Master's programme in International Health.

On 23 September 2024, the new students of the Master's in International Health (MScIH) met to kick off their one-year course. The Master's programme focuses on poverty-related health problems in low- and middle-income countries. The aim is to provide students with solid knowledge of the principles of international healthcare. After completing the Master's programme, they should be able to initiate sustainable programmes for disease control, health promotion and the development of health services in different countries and for different population groups.

The presentation of the alumni work on the occasion of the opening of the current Master's programme met with lively interest among the students. The majority of those present expressed their intention to remain connected with the university after completing their studies. Graduates have access not only to Ruperto Carola's general HAI network, but also to the institute's own alumni group. This currently has around 210 members from more than 60 countries around the world and promotes regular subject-related dialogue among alumni.
